FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Q. How much are your portraits?
A. A full-color Prismacolor® Pencil 8"x 10" head portrait of one pet is $125 (US). A double mat to make the portrait ready for an 11x14 frame is an additional $16. Shipping and handling charges are currently $8 insured via Priority Mail (USPS, continental U.S.) for a single 8x10 portrait with or without mat. The total for the standard matted portrait just described, shipped, would be $149. 5% of the purchase price of each portrait is donated to a nonprofit animal-friendly organization.

Additional subjects in the same portrait start at $25. Contact me for a quote if you’re interested in a full body or larger size portrait, or if you have any portrait preferences not covered here. Q. How do I order?
A. The best way to contact me and to place your order is by e-mail at kim@amazingpetportraits.com. I prefer e-mail because I can keep a record of correspondence better that if I speak with someone over the phone, and it’s easier to work out the details in writing. If you’d prefer to speak on the phone, include your phone number and area code in the e-mail, as well as the best time to reach you, and I’d be happy to call you back.

Q. What forms of payment do you accept?
A. I currently accept PayPal® (please reference my e-mail address: kim@amazingpetportraits.com) and money orders. It’s easy and free to pay by PayPal, and you can use a credit card. For fastest shipment once the portrait is completed, I recommend PayPal instead of a money order. It’s easy (and free!) to sign up for a personal PayPal account, although you’re not required to set up a PayPal account in order to make a one-time credit card payment. Click here to go open a new browser window and go directly to the PayPal web site.

Q. How long will it take you to complete the portrait?
A. I generally like to allow 8 - 12 weeks from the time I receive the photos. However, depending on how many portraits that have been commissioned at one time, it may take longer. Of course holidays are going to be busier than the rest of the year, so try to plan ahead if you’re purchasing a gift. Please sure to e-mail me to get a time estimate if this is an issue.

Q. What medium and other materials do you use for your portraits?
A. I find Prismacolor® Pencils allow me to draw very highly detailed portraits in rich color. I can capture the distinguishing physical characteristics of your pet so that I truly create a portrait of an individual pet and not just a general drawing of the breed.

The drawings are done on acid free paper or bristol board, approximately 9x12 which allows room for centering an 8x10 image under the mat for an 11x14 frame. I prefer to draw on white bristol board because I like the brightness, but occasionally I will use colored paper when drawing light-colored or white pets.

Q. Do you mat and frame the portraits?
A. I will be happy to mat a portrait for an additional $16 for a double mat made with acid-free mat board. I strongly recommend matting before framing (whether your mat or mine) in order to protect the finished portrait. I do not frame portraits that are to be shipped due to increased shipping costs and potential glass breakage. It’s usually more cost-effective for the buyer to frame the portrait in the frame of his/her choice.

Q. What if I’m not satisfied with the finished portrait?
A. Your satisfaction is 100% guaranteed! While I have yet to have a dissatisfied customer, it could happen. If you don’t like the finished portrait, you are under no obligation to buy it. I will e-mail you a scanned image of the finished portrait so you can decide if you like it before I ship it to you.

Q. What animals do you draw?
A. While most of my commissioned portraits have been dogs, I can draw other animals as well, including cats, horses, etc. My portraits are 100% satisfaction guaranteed, so there’s no risk to you. I welcome the opportunity to draw any type of pet.

Q. Do you do any other artwork besides pet portraits?
A. My business and my primary interest is in drawing pet portraits, but if someone would like me to draw something else from a photo such as a home, etc. I’d be happy to discuss it. E-mail me at kim@amazingpetportraits.com.
